This piece is a powerful Statement of Realization. The system doesn’t run or own us. We make things keep going. Keep running. Specifically for me, that looks like being confident in my culture, my passions, talents, and the control I have in my past, present, and future. Knowing I make a direct impact to the city. I’ve seen it. In my shows, the people I reach, in my spirit. The piece welcomes the viewer to look inside and think about what it looks like for them. How they contribute and impact and run the city in their own way. The colors are muted, blended, runny, textured, like an urban city. The hand is my signature, my statement, my seal. My “ I said what I said” and I invite the viewer to adapt it as their own, metaphorically. It also is meant to signify the skyscrapers at night. The crown reiterates that the city is blessed. I am blessed. And I mean something. I am worthy, held in high esteem, and important. Again “I” being the viewer as well. Taking on the same identity. Also I wanted the background to look like driving over State St. st bridge looking towards Randolph St. away from the trump building. A place I know very well. A blurred vision of the train. The tracks. The river and the buildings. This piece is My Statement of Realization.
